Engagement

Dementia Friendly East Riding is keen to engage with the public in many different ways. Currently we organise two active competitions which are open to everyone to take part as well as show films in friendly surroundings and circumstances that are designed to be helpful to those with dementia.

Looking Beyond – Dementia Challenged

On 1st October our photographic boards hit the East Riding area on a six month tour taking in shopping centres, transport hubs, village halls and other communal areas. This initiative is supported through funding from Two Ridings Community Foundation and results from a photographic competition held earlier in 2017. For details of where you can catch up with them see our news section on this website or follow our Facebook page Looking Beyond which will have up-to-date information.

Dementia Friendly Screenings

The aim of the dementia friendly cinema screenings is to provide those people living with dementia an opportunity to get out and enjoy watching a film in a safe, friendly and social environment.

We also encourage families and carers to attend and to interact with others who are in a similar situation supporting loved ones who have dementia.

The next film will be on Thursday 28th September is Their Finest with Bill Nighy and Gemma Arterton.A former secretary, newly appointed as a scriptwriter for propaganda films, joins the cast and crew of a major production while the blitz rages around!

“You`d need a heart of stone and a funny bone of porridge not to enjoy this eminently warm and funny film with Bill Nighy at his very best” says our Trustee Simon Foster who has seen the film.

Carers, family and friends are also invited to attend. Withe free tea and biscuits on arrival and an entry fee of just £4 they are immensely popular.
