Our dementia friendly garden themed ‘The Yellow Brick Road’ located at the Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham includes a variety of features, with plants, shrubs and the resident scarecrows Bill and Betty! The garden is a place to relax for patients and their visitors and also for staff and volunteers to enjoy and reminisce with family and friends in a safe environment.
Where to find the garden..
Enter at gate 2 and travel towards the main reception, the garden is situated close to ward 8. A short walk from the carpark.
The sensory garden has been inspired by Suzy Bunton, Dementia Friendly Champion (Lead Dementia Nurse) at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Working with estate staff at Castle Hill Hospital and students from Hull College, this exciting project is being developed throughout the summer. Hospital patients, staff and volunteers are welcome to visit.
Dementia Friendly East Riding were proud winners of the public’s vote for best small community garden competition, East Yorkshire 2016.
